If exim runned from another user (user mail and group mail as example), at (re)start init.d change to another owner (exim) Steps to Reproduce: 1. Change in exim.conf to this settings: exim_user = mail exim_group = mail 2. chown -R mail:mail /var/spol/exim /var/log/exim 3. service exim restart
