Ran into same issue using Sandisk USB2.0 8GB stick. It did, however, recognize my WD Passport 500GB external USB 3.0 portable disk. Fixed upstream. mediawriter-3.97.0-0.fc25 has been pushed to the Fedora 25 testing repository. If problems still persist, please make note of it in this bug report.
