I agree. Audacity 2.3 freezes a lot, unsuitable for production. I used this 2.2.2 build: https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=1146037 It can be easily installed for F29. Just installed audacity on F29 and found it unusable due to crashes. Version 2.3.1 was released in March and supposedly fixes these issues. I forked so I could do local builds and send a PR, but it turns out that the fosshub URLs are broken or at least spectool -g doesn't work. The source on github works but has a different name. The manual is in a separate project (https://github.com/audacity/audacity-manual) and has no releases, so the best you can do is check out a commit hash. In any case, I was able to get a functional package built for F29 and it didn't crash in the few minutes I played with it. I will clean up my work a bit and send a PR. audacity-2.3.1-1.fc29 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 29. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2019-5c0e418b01 audacity-2.3.1-1.fc28 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 28. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2019-6e4baba530 audacity-2.3.1-1.fc30 has been submitted as an update to Fedora 30. https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2019-5592e42ee7 audacity-2.3.1-1.fc30 has been pushed to the Fedora 30 testing repository.
