The warning pasted below seems quite clear that the code is buggy: the call to g_malloc allocates sizeof (double*) or four bytes worth of memory and stores a double into it. I expect sizeof(double) is 8 on most targets, so the store overflows the allocated buffer by four bytes. /builddir/build/BUILD/gvmd-9.0.1/src/gmp.c: In function 'gmp_xml_handle_end_element': /builddir/build/BUILD/gvmd-9.0.1/src/gmp.c:11514:35: error: array subscript 'double[0]' is partly outside array bounds of 'unsigned char[4]' [-Werror=array-bounds] 11514 | *subgroup_c_sum = 0; | ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~^~~ /builddir/build/BUILD/gvmd-9.0.1/src/gmp.c:11513:36: note: referencing an object of size 4 allocated by 'g_malloc' 11513 | subgroup_c_sum = g_malloc (sizeof (double *)); | ^~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ cc1: all warnings being treated as errors The code is still in the upstream sources (https://github.com/greenbone/gvmd/blob/master/src/gmp.c#L10524), copied below. It's most likely a typo, the call should be 'g_malloc (sizeof (double))'. double *subgroup_c_sum = NULL; if (subgroup_column && column_is_timestamp (data_column) == FALSE) { GTree *c_sum_tree; c_sum_tree = g_array_index (group_c_sums, GTree*, index); subgroup_c_sum = g_tree_lookup (c_sum_tree, subgroup_value); if (subgroup_c_sum == NULL) { subgroup_c_sum = g_malloc (sizeof (double *)); *subgroup_c_sum = 0; Thanks for the analysis Martin. This clearly needs to be addressed by the package owner and upstream. This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 34 development cycle. Changing version to 34. Dear Maintainer, your package has an open Fails To Build From Source bug for Fedora 34. Action is required from you. If you can fix your package to build, perform a build in koji, and either create an update in bodhi, or close this bug without creating an update, if updating is not appropriate [1]. If you are working on a fix, set the status to ASSIGNED to acknowledge this. If you have already fixed this issue, please close this Bugzilla report. Following the policy for such packages [2], your package will be orphaned if this bug remains in NEW state more than 8 weeks (not sooner than 2021-03-29). A week before the mass branching of Fedora 35 according to the schedule [3], any packages not successfully rebuilt at least on Fedora 33 will be retired regardless of the status of this bug.
