Background Logo Shell Extension on fully updated F37 Beta none

Description Daniel Rusek 2022-09-15 15:40:05 UTC
Description of problem:
The gnome-shell-extension-background-logo extension is an important part of Fedora Workstation (and Silverblue) branding. However, it was not updated to 43.0 yet. Please, make sure that the extension works correctly with the new gnome-shell 43.

Comment 1 Fedora Blocker Bugs Application 2022-09-15 15:42:11 UTC
Proposed as a Blocker and Freeze Exception for 37-final by Fedora user asciiwolf using the blocker tracking app because:

The gnome-shell-extension-background-logo extension is an important part of Fedora Workstation (and Silverblue) branding - it is the "Fedora" logo displayed on a desktop background. However, it was not updated to 43.0 yet. Please, make sure that the extension works correctly with the new gnome-shell 43 before the F37 Final release.

Comment 2 Daniel Rusek 2022-09-16 17:34:58 UTC
I have tested fully updated Fedora 37 Beta (with gnome-shell-43~rc-3.fc37), "Fedora" logo is not displayed on the desktop and gnome-shell-extension-background-logo is indeed not compatible. See the attached screenshot.

Comment 4 Daniel Rusek 2022-09-18 12:58:07 UTC
Here is the new Fedora 37 build of gnome-shell-extension-background-logo 43.0: https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=2064091

Tested and works fine! However probably still needs FinalFE approval.

Comment 5 Adam Williamson 2022-09-19 16:23:39 UTC
We are not currently frozen, so it doesn't need one yet. Just submit an update as normal (I see one hasn't been created yet).

Comment 7 Geoffrey Marr 2022-09-19 18:08:48 UTC
Discussed during the 2022-09-19 blocker review meeting: [0]

The decision to delay the classification of this as a blocker bug and accept it as an "AcceptedFreezeException (Final)" was made as we agreed the justification for taking this as a blocker is quite weak, and it shouldn't be necessary to consider it as the fix is already prepared. We grant it a freeze exception just in case the update doesn't make it stable before Final freeze.
