Description Martin Ebourne 2009-04-11 10:23:03 UTC
Description of problem:
Resume from suspend fails with a blank screen that fills with white. This was working fine in Fedora 10. Not using modesetting.

ATI Technologies Inc M76 [Radeon Mobility HD 2600 Series]

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.12.1-10.fc11.x86_64

How reproducible:
Every time

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Suspend to RAM
2. Wake up from RAM

Actual results:
Screen comes back blank and then gradually fills with white.

Expected results:
Normal screen should return, as it used to in F10.

Additional info:
Switching to a console terminal and back generally fixes although sometimes it doesn't recover even after a dozen switches.

Still broken with xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.12.2-2.fc11.x86_64

Resumes from suspend successfully using xorg-x11-drv-radeonhd-1.2.5-2.8.20090411git.fc11.x86_64 though.

Xorg.0.log from xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.12.2-13.fc11.x86_64 result backlight off

The situation here has deteriorated with recent koji builds:

xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.12.2-12.fc11.x86_64
xorg-x11-drv-ati-6.12.2-13.fc11.x86_64

In both cases when X starts the backlight of the LCD goes off and the screen is completely black. Stays so even on VT switch. Machine is still running (switch to console + c-a-d reboots ok) but I can't see anything so couldn't get dmesg.

Looking back through /v/l/messages this oops might be relevant (2.6.29.2-130.fc11.x86_64):

The oops is also at http://www.kerneloops.org/submitresult.php?number=400217

Comment 6 Bug Zapper 2009-06-09 13:39:14 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 11 development cycle.
Changing version to '11'.

More information and reason for this action is here:

Comment 7 Jérôme Glisse 2009-10-13 15:36:32 UTC
Can you try if Fedora 12 live cd works for you ?https://fedoraproject.org/get-prerelease

Comment 8 Martin Ebourne 2009-10-13 23:11:15 UTC
Current f12 fails as per bug #522271. The symptoms are slightly different to this one hence the separate bug.

Comment 9 Matěj Cepl 2009-11-05 18:26:09 UTC
Since this bugzilla report was filed, there have been several major updates in various components of the Xorg system, which may have resolved this issue. Users who have experienced this problem are encouraged to upgrade their system to the latest version of their packages. For packages from updates-testing repository you can use command

yum upgrade --enablerepo='*-updates-testing'

Alternatively, you can also try to test whether this bug is reproducible with the upcoming Fedora 12 distribution by downloading LiveMedia of F12 Beta available at http://alt.fedoraproject.org/pub/alt/nightly-composes/ . By using that you get all the latest packages without need to install anything on your computer. For more information on using LiveMedia take a look at https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/FedoraLiveCD .

Please, if you experience this problem on the up-to-date system, let us now in the comment for this bug, or whether the upgraded system works for you.

If you won't be able to reply in one month, I will have to close this bug as INSUFFICIENT_DATA. Thank you.

[This is a bulk message for all open Fedora Rawhide Xorg-related bugs. I'm adding myself to the CC list for each bug, so I'll see any comments you make after this and do my best to make sure every issue gets proper attention.]

Comment 10 Martin Ebourne 2009-11-05 21:38:11 UTC
Marking as dup of 522271. The oops in this report is gone and the backlight issue is resolved but the original problem is still present and is being tracked in the other bug.
