2. Boot from disk, log in as new user just created
3. System/Preferences/Desktop Effects, select compiz

Tried booting with nomodeset (this worked in F12).  Now, in F13, nomodeset hangs when attempting to switch to graphics mode (after going through sysvinit in text mode).  Keyboard is active, and Ctrl-Alt-Del does a controlled shutdown.
