Description Dan Pritts 2014-06-20 20:11:30 UTC
Description of problem:

Nagios is compiled with embedded perl, and default configuration has use_embedded_perl_implicitly set to 1.

This doesn't follow the principle of least surprise. The embedded perl is an optional feature of nagios, that not everyone even knows about. Having it enabled implicitly can lead to hours of debugging and lost hair. Guess how I know.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

ver 3.5.1 rel 1.el6

Additional info:

I noticed another bug in the tracker that mentioned problems with one of the plugins if this is turned off. So I see that it's a non-trivial issue. But the implicit embedded perl leads to plugins that don't act like normal nagios plugins, as documented all over the internet.

thanks
danno

Comment 1 Dan Pritts 2014-06-20 20:13:03 UTC
to clarify my last comment - normal plugins, as documented all over the internet, run as separate processes. Therefore, not in an embedded perl.
