Description Wolfgang Breyha 2016-08-10 09:30:45 UTC
Description of problem:
After upgrading from 4.6.4-301.fc24 to 4.6.5-300.fc24 my onboard audio device is not initialized anymore.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
4.6.5-300.fc24.x86_64

How reproducible:
My mainboard is a ASUS Z170-D3. I do not use onboard GFX. A Nvidia GTX 950 is built in.

Booting 4.6.4 provides working onboard sound. 4.6.5 does not.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. boot 4.6.5-300.fc24.x86_64 on Z170-D3 with 8086:a170 audio device... no onboard audio
2. boot 4.6.4-301.fc24.x86_64 and audio works as expected
3.

Actual results:
dmesg on 4.6.5-300 shows
[ 4.108456] snd_hda_intel 0000:00:1f.3: HSW/BDW HD-audio HDMI/DP requires binding with gfx driver
[ 4.109671] snd_hda_intel 0000:01:00.1: Disabling MSI
[ 4.109675] snd_hda_intel 0000:01:00.1: Handle vga_switcheroo audio client

Expected results:
4.6.4-301 does not show the "requires binding" message. instead the device is initialized showing stuff like:
...
[ 4.211346] snd_hda_intel 0000:01:00.1: Disabling MSI
[ 4.211349] snd_hda_intel 0000:01:00.1: Handle vga_switcheroo audio client
[ 4.234487] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: autoconfig for ALC887-VD: line_outs=1 (0x14/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0) type:line
[ 4.234489] snd_hda_codec_realtek hdaudioC0D0: speaker_outs=0 (0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0/0x0)
....

Additional info:
lsmod in 4.6.5 shows that
snd_hda_codec_realtek and snd_hda_codec_generic
are not loaded.

Please test https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2016-90f142aa64, this drops a patch that was linked to sound issues

Had the same problem on a Clevo P650RE3. Onboard audio works again with Kernel 4.6.6-300.fc24.
