Log of failed boot using kernel-4.17.0-200.fc28.x86_64

Description of problem:
For the Kernel 4.17 Test Day (https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Test_Day:2018-06-12_Kernel_4.17_Test_Day) I installed the testing version of the kernel as outlined on the page, using the kernel-stabilization COPR.

After installing the new Kernel my machine, a Lenovo ThinkPad X1 Carbon Gen5 (2017), no longer boots and instead the console is spammed with uvcvideo error messages.

A full log of the failed boot is attached.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
kernel-4.17.0-200.fc28.x86_64

Additional info:
My X1 Carbon has two cameras built in: A regular color webcam and a infrared webcam used for face detection sign-on features such as Windows Hello.

This patch fixes the issue: https://git.kernel.org/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/torvalds/linux.git/commit/?id=0dc68cabdb626e33d02561529e6a4c681b72a784

Either we apply that in Fedora or we recommend disabling the webcam until 4.18 hits the repos.

Thanks for the pointer. It looks like that patch is queued up for the v4.17.3 stable release which should be out tomorrow.

Comment 5 Peter Larsen 2018-06-27 14:40:11 UTC
I updated to 4.17.2-200 on a Lenovo W541 which has a built in camera and I have one attached to the docking station too. The system will not boot, looping forever with kernel messages as indicated in this BZ.

When I unplug the camera, and disable the internal camera, I can complete a boot. This worked before the update.

Hi Peter, please test the 4.17.3 kernel in Bodhi linked in comment #4 and provide feedback on the update. Thanks!

Darn - I read comment #4 wrong and thought it was the kernel I was on. Duh - I'll test that and update the BZ later today. Thanks for catching it!

That's an affirmative. 4.17.3-200 is problem free. I was using 4.17.2. That's for catching that mis-read.
