Description Chris Adams 2019-11-26 02:13:21 UTC
I have installed Fedora 31 with the MATE desktop (been using MATE on Fedora for years). Somehow, under apparently random conditions, the window stacking order gets wrong. For example, on a workspace, I might have several separate Firefox windows opened full-screen, and after a workspace switch, the "top" window (with focus) is underneath another window. The only way to see the window with focus is to find the non-focus window on top of it in the window list at the bottom and minimize it.

This isn't just a full-screen thing though; I usually have one workspace with several xterms all the time, and I might run something else (like a VM, or atril to read a PDF, etc.), and it'll open up (with focus) underneath the xterms. I have to click on the offending xterm to "raise" it, then back to the other program to get the other program on top (and then sometimes switching workspace away and back will just cause it to happen again).

Clicks that appear to go to the non-focused (but on top) window actually go to the window with focus; that's why I have to find the "bad" window in the window list and minimize it. Minimizing the window with focus and bringing it back does not fix the stacking order.

It's pretty random, so I have not figured out a reliable trigger, but it is incredibly frustrating. This is on a single-monitor system if it matters.

Looks like you did run in this issue?
https://github.com/mate-desktop/marco/issues/560

Personal, i didn`t run into this issue for myself, but i am using special focus settings.

```
[rave@mother ~]$ gsettings get org.mate.Marco.general auto-raise
true
[rave@mother ~]$ gsettings get org.mate.Marco.general auto-raise-delay
800
[rave@mother ~]$ gsettings get org.mate.Marco.general focus-mode
'sloppy'
```

Maybe this workaround helps?

Another solution might be to downgrade to marco-1.22.1-1.fc31 from fedora build server (koji)
https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/buildinfo?buildID=1256950
I posted downgrade instructions here.

Comment 2 Wolfgang Ulbrich 2019-12-02 17:02:51 UTC

I have installed the above build on F31... will try for a few days to see if that's got it fixed.
