Description Miro Hrončok 2020-05-21 08:57:29 UTC
python-patsy fails to build with numpy 1.19.x.

In our Python 3.9 testing copr, we built numpy 1.19.x from dist git and python-patsy fails to build the documentation:

Exception occurred:
  File "/usr/lib/python3.9/site-packages/IPython/sphinxext/ipython_directive.py", line 586, in process_input
raise RuntimeError('Non Expected warning in `{}` line {}'.format(filename, lineno))
RuntimeError: Non Expected warning in `/builddir/build/BUILD/patsy-0.5.1/doc/spline-regression.rst` line 205
The full traceback has been saved in /tmp/sphinx-err-qxw0oh1e.log, if you want to report the issue to the developers.
Please also report this if it was a user error, so that a better error message can be provided next time.
A bug report can be filed in the tracker at <https://github.com/sphinx-doc/sphinx/issues>. Thanks!

This report is automated and not very verbose, but we'll try to get back here with details.

For the build logs, see:
https://copr-be.cloud.fedoraproject.org/results/@python/python3.9/fedora-rawhide-x86_64/01400166-python-patsy/

For all our attempts to build python-patsy with Python 3.9, see:
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/python/python3.9/package/python-patsy/

Testing and mass rebuild of packages is happening in copr. You can follow these instructions to test locally in mock if your package builds with Python 3.9:
https://copr.fedorainfracloud.org/coprs/g/python/python3.9/

Let us know here if you have any questions.

Python 3.9 will be included in Fedora 33. To make that update smoother, we're building Fedora packages with early pre-releases of Python 3.9.
A build failure prevents us from testing all dependent packages (transitive [Build]Requires), so if this package is required a lot, it's important for us to get it fixed soon.
We'd appreciate help from the people who know this package best, but if you don't want to work on this now, let us know so we can try to work around it on our side.

Comment 1 Miro Hrončok 2020-05-21 11:59:48 UTC
numpy 1.19 was temporarily reverted, but I'm keeping this open for future reference

Comment 2 Miro Hrončok 2020-06-03 12:34:00 UTC
numpy 1.19 is back.
