Description Fedora Release Engineering 2020-08-03 15:15:14 UTC
build2 failed to build from source in Fedora rawhide/f33

https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=47933097

For details on the mass rebuild see:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_33_Mass_Rebuild
Please fix build2 at your earliest convenience and set the bug's status to
ASSIGNED when you start fixing it. If the bug remains in NEW state for 8 weeks,
build2 will be orphaned. Before branching of Fedora 34,
build2 will be retired, if it still fails to build.

Comment 4 Matthew Krupcale 2020-08-03 15:57:19 UTC
Some of build2's tests fail due to unexpected warnings from annobin when building preprocessed input using -flto with -Wp,-D_FORTIFY_SOURCE=2[1]. I'm not entirely sure why redhat-rpm-config macros use -Wp,-D rather than just -D, but this would probably fix the issue.

Comment 5 Jeff Law 2020-08-07 00:59:56 UTC
-Wp,-D has the same meaning as -D to the compiler and I'm pretty sure that's not the underlying issue.

Comment 6 Matthew Krupcale 2020-08-07 01:11:19 UTC
-Wp,-D does not have the same meaning to the compiler as far as the annobin plugin is concerned, though. See the linked bug, which gives different output for -Wp,-D and -D: using -D does not produce any warnings and properly sets _FORTIFY_SOURCE and _GLIBCXX_ASSERTIONS for annobin.

The cause of the test failures is the fact that the tests are checking the output, and they do not expect there to be any warnings, which seems reasonable. I'd rather fix the warnings than adjust the tests to allow for warnings.

Comment 7 Ben Cotton 2020-08-11 13:54:43 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 33 development cycle.
Changing version to 33.

Comment 8 Matthew Krupcale 2020-08-11 17:21:42 UTC
Fixed by building with annobin-9.28-1.fc33.
