Description Fedora Release Engineering 2020-08-03 17:10:14 UTC
kyotocabinet failed to build from source in Fedora rawhide/f33

https://koji.fedoraproject.org/koji/taskinfo?taskID=47963289

For details on the mass rebuild see:

https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Fedora_33_Mass_Rebuild
Please fix kyotocabinet at your earliest convenience and set the bug's status to
ASSIGNED when you start fixing it. If the bug remains in NEW state for 8 weeks,
kyotocabinet will be orphaned. Before branching of Fedora 34,
kyotocabinet will be retired, if it still fails to build.

"FAILED: KCRNDSEED=3156617123 PID=322408 ./kcdirtest order -th 4 -rnd -etc -tran casket 500" is at least what https://sources.debian.org/patches/kyotocabinet/1.2.76-4.2/test-disable-dir-db-test-fails-on-tmpfs-btrfs.patch/ disables...

Comment 5 Ben Cotton 2020-08-11 14:04:27 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 33 development cycle.
Changing version to 33.

Comment 6 Parag Nemade 2020-09-16 15:31:27 UTC
Any updates here please?

Comment 7 Robert Scheck 2020-09-16 15:34:15 UTC
Honestly, I do not have any idea why the test fails nor any idea how to fix it. Any support is highly appreciated (especially since I do not use kyotocabinet anymore). Based on old own experiences, I'm not sure if upstream is still active.

Comment 8 Parag Nemade 2020-09-17 12:23:14 UTC
Then maybe we can also disable that test for now and at least have this built for F33+ releases. This package is needed by libpinyin package.

Comment 9 Peng Wu 2020-09-18 04:46:06 UTC
Hi Robert Scheck,

Is it possible to contact the upstream and fix this issue?

Comment 10 Robert Scheck 2020-09-23 22:28:49 UTC
I have contacted upstream a few minutes ago, but given previous experiences, I'm not sure if there will be any reaction.

Further on, I don't know if it's really a good idea to simply disable the test suite, because it could hide a nasty bug either in the test suite or, even more bad, in the database implementation itself.

As I personally do not use kyotocabinet on Fedora anymore, I'm currently more tempted to orphan the package except somebody steps up as new package maintainer.

Comment 11 Robert Scheck 2020-09-23 22:38:19 UTC
The e-mail address of the maintainer mentioned at https://dbmx.net/kyotocabinet/ bounced with "550-5.1.1 The email account that you tried to reach does not exist.". If somebody is interested in becoming the new package maintainer, please let me know your FAS name; otherwise I will orphan the package given the non-helpful upstream situation.

Comment 12 Jens Petersen 2020-09-24 06:08:43 UTC
I think Peng is planning to move libpinyin away from kyotocabinet (I am not aware of anything else in Fedora using it currently?),
but in the meantime it would be helpful just to get the package to build, because it is still currently needed for ELN, until that change happens.

Comment 13 Jens Petersen 2020-09-24 06:16:43 UTC
(Just for the record tokyocabinet recommends using https://dbmx.net/tkrzw/)
