Comment 1 Christopher Crouse 2021-12-18 16:47:45 UTC
Looks good.

Recommend putting the %{_libdir} below the %{_datadir} macros in the spec file's %files section to make them follow alphabetical order as they are on the filesystem.

Package Review
==============

Issues:
=======
- If your application is a C or C++ application you must list a
  BuildRequires against gcc, gcc-c++ or clang.
  Note: No gcc, gcc-c++ or clang found in BuildRequires
  See: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-guidelines/C_and_C++/

  OK: The vala package pulls in the gcc dependency.

  Still according to the guidelines it is recommended to include in the spec:
  BuildRequires: gcc

- Dist tag is present.
  OK: rpmautospec

- This package also has a problem with NxN@2 scaled icons in hicolor-icon-theme.
  Bug discussion here: https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2033890#c6

  Adding the same fix, in %install, as described in the bug discussion, example:

  "rm -r %{buildroot}/%{_datadir}/icons/hicolor/*@2/"

- It is possible to provide translated versions of the description and summary in the spec file, since it is included in the AppData file settings.
  Related documentation here: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/packaging-guidelines/#_summary_and_description
  Example here: https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/appeditor/blob/8afdf490c0a7dbe84cb7887442c46bfdf2e311ef/f/appeditor.spec

  For example, in po/extras/de.po:

     #: data/io.elementary.mail.appdata.xml.in:9
     #: data/io.elementary.mail.desktop.in:4
     msgid "Send and receive mail"
     msgstr "Senden und Empfangen von Nachrichten"

     #: data/io.elementary.mail.appdata.xml.in:11
     msgid ""
     "Mail is designed to let you manage your email quickly and effortlessly. Its "
     "interface is based on conversations, so you can read an entire discussion "
     "without having to click from message to message."
     msgstr ""
     "Mail wurde entwickelt, damit Sie Ihre E-Mails schnell und einfach verwalten "
     "können. Seine Benutzeroberfläche stellt Nachrichten in der "
     "Konversationsansicht dar, sodass Sie eine ganze Diskussion lesen können, "
     "ohne von einer Nachricht zur nächsten wechseln zu müssen."

  Regardless, this is optional, since in the guidelines it does not say you "SHOULD" do it.

- Unversioned so file: `libio.elementary.mail-webkit-extension.so`

  /usr/lib64/io.elementary.mail/webkit2/libio.elementary.mail-webkit-extension.so

  Updating the `__provides_exclude_from` to the following in the spec should fix it:

  %global __provides_exclude_from ^%{_libdir}/%{appname}/*/.*\\.so$

Comment 3 Fabio Valentini 2022-01-26 15:13:05 UTC
Updated to version 6.4.0:

Spec URL: https://decathorpe.fedorapeople.org/packages/elementary-mail.spec
SRPM URL: https://decathorpe.fedorapeople.org/packages/elementary-mail-6.4.0-1.fc35.src.rpm

Note that recent Vala changes break compilation of this package on rawhide:
https://github.com/elementary/mail/issues/762
It compiles fine on f35 and f34, but I'll include a fix for rawhide here as soon as upstream makes it available.

I don't think this is necessary.
If gala ever does not pull in gcc as a dependency, it will not work at all, so that would be a bug in the vala package.

Done.

As far as I know, those translations are not even used anywhere. GNOME Software etc. will use the values from appdata and the .desktop file directly, no need to include them in the .spec file.

Updated.

Comment 4 Christopher Crouse 2022-01-29 14:22:46 UTC
Looks good. Overall functionality works, however I did pick up a bug.

> Looks good. Overall functionality works, however I did pick up a bug.

Not sure what I am supposed to do with this information?
I doubt that this is related to Fedora packaging.

Comment 6 Fabio Valentini 2022-01-29 19:15:55 UTC
I've added the upstream patch for fixing compilation on rawhide.
Spec and SRPM behind the same links.

Thank you for for the update, and including the upstream patch.

===

+ Valid package name
+ Valid package version (latest version is packaged)
+ Valid license (GPLv3+)
+ License is specified correctly
+ Builds latest version & installs correctly
+ No segfaults when running
+ rpmlint only false positives
+ fedora-review found 2 issues, however both with exceptions to the rule:
  -> missing dist tag (exception: spec is making use of rpmautospec)
  -> C or C++ application you must list a BuildRequires against gcc, gcc-c++ or clang (exception: vala is specified as a BuildRequires)

PACKAGE APPROVED.
