Description of problem:

Since version 5.11 avrdude supports a new class of devices which are based on ics made by FTDI. These devices are quite common and used for various usb interfaces. The avrdude.conf contains several links to such devices (commercial and homebrew). This new device type is called 'avrftdi' in avrdude.

Please add support for this device type.

Everything that is needed is having libftdi available during build. Libftdi is readily available in Fedora for several releases now. So everything that is 
needed is adding

BuildRequires:  libftdi-devel

to the .spec and recompile.

I did just this and successfully programmed an AVR with a DLP-USB1232H.

Package avrdude-5.11.1-1.el6:
* should fix your issue,
* was pushed to the Fedora EPEL 6 testing repository,
* should be available at your local mirror within two days.
Update it with:
# su -c 'yum update --enablerepo=epel-testing avrdude-5.11.1-1.el6'
as soon as you are able to.
