Comment 13 Ling Li 2013-01-03 02:13:41 UTC
IMHO, it's better to wait for the next upstream release. This (0.5.6) release and a few older ones introduce a new "optimize" keyword (to optimize the pickled object). However, the default value was set to "True", which may cause shoved objects to have different sizes under the default setting (compared to old 0.3.3 version). The next release will revert that default value to "False", and should bring a more compatible default interface to users.

Another issue with the packaging is that this package "requires" python-boto and python-sqlalchemy. It's true that one may use shove together with boto and/or database backends, but that's just a choice of the backends (and one may simply use shove with memory or disk files). I would suggest to remove the dependencies.

Comment 14 Luke Macken 2014-08-27 23:11:56 UTC
Thanks for the heads-up Ling, I'll wait for the next release. I'm also fine with removing the optional deps.

I stopped relying on Shove in my codebase, so if you'd like to help co-maintain this package please fee free :)

Please keep in mind that with any upstream change, there may also be packaging changes that need to be made. Specifically, please remember that it is your responsibility to review the new version to ensure that the licensing is still correct and that no non-free or legally problematic items have been added upstream.
