FWIW, the issue here is that libtwin is trying to use libpng-1.5, even though it only supports libpng-1.2. After applying the attached patch to libtwin and building it, I was able to build petitboot locally.

Even though petitboot is going to be retired anyway, I'm posting this patch here for documentation in case people want to build their own packages.
