Description mejiko 2013-09-24 10:55:37 UTC
Hello.

Ruby included non-free codes.

Files:

ruby-2.0.0-p247/lib/gserver.rb

This code license is "freeware". generally, "freeware" is not "free software".
Its non-free.

Note: What is "free" means ?

I think that:

freeware: "zero price" -> "Using freely, but do not allow copy, modify, distribute, sell, etc... for any purpose"

free software: "freedom" -> "Freely use, copy, modify, distribute, sell, etc... for any purpose"

See: https://www.gnu.org/philosophy/categories.en.html

This problem is already reported. (Upstream and trisquel), and upstream already fixed this problem.

https://bugs.ruby-lang.org/issues/8913
https://trisquel.info/en/issues/10078

Suggests:

1. backport or upgrade to Upstream version.

2. Remove non-free code and rebuild.

3. Replace fedora free (Acceptable licensed) code.

4. Remove fedora repos.

Thanks.

Blocking FE-Legal, This is license problem.

Comment 2 Vít Ondruch 2013-09-24 11:26:57 UTC
It is distributed under the same license terms as Ruby itself. It was recently fixed upstream: http://bugs.ruby-lang.org/projects/ruby-trunk/repository/revisions/42994
