Description Joe Wright 2014-04-23 16:32:07 UTC
Description of problem:
The current version of the subscription manager does not integrate with the surrounding desktop environment, namely, Gnome 3.

Specifically, when the subscription manager requests your password, it shows an outdated password request form, rather than the standard Gnome dialog for promotion to root privileges. This breaks the flow, and especially on something that should have good visual cues, namely, the asking for a root password.

Additionally, the overall GUI design does not integrate with existing Gnome practices, such as the App menu. The current menu bar should be replaced with an app menu in Gnome.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
RHEL 7 General Public Beta

How reproducible:
100%

Steps to Reproduce:
See attachment

Actual results:
GUI prompts and windows behave as they did in RHEL 6, not matching the new behaviours which would be expected in Gnome 3

Expected results:
Subscription-manager-gui integrated with Gnome 3 styling and behaviour

This request was not resolved in time for the current release.
Red Hat invites you to ask your support representative to
propose this request, if still desired, for consideration in
the next release of Red Hat Enterprise Linux.

Comment 5 William Poteat 2015-05-12 19:32:23 UTC
Subman Gui has been implemented to the lowest common denominator [i.e. RHEL5]

Not sure how to change this except to write and maintain 3 separate code bases [RHEL5, RHEL6, RHEL7]

That is highly unlikely.
