Description Daniel Miranda 2015-04-09 17:37:00 UTC
Description of problem:

I'm packaging a Perl library that needs gnuplot. It doesn't need any of the particular variants (minimal, Qt, WxWidgets): any of them will work. But right there isn't a common requirement that they all fulfill that I can depend on.

I believe the variants should each 'Provides: /usr/bin/gnuplot', 'Provides: gnuplot(bin)' or something of the sort. Then my package could depend on that and accept any of the variants if they are already installed (I would also like to have it prefere the minimal variant if none are already installed, but that's a different matter).

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):

gnuplot-4.6.5-5.fc21.x86_64

I don't know if the following page is up-to-date, but it seems marking /usr/bin/gnuplot as a %ghost file should be enough to solve this.

Thinking about it more, it seems strange that a package ghost owning a file can be used to satisfy another package requiring that file. Ghost owning means that file could somehow appear or never appear. What am I missing?
In this case it will work, gnuplot always creates /usr/bin/gnuplot, but I wonder how %ghost is meant to work in general.
