Description Gabriel Schubiner 2015-04-22 05:16:00 UTC
Description of problem:

Currently packaged version of python-foolscap uses upstream foolscap version 0.6.4.

Latest release is 0.8.0.

Until latest release, python-foolscap defaults to creation of Certificate Signing Requests using MD5 digest algorithm. This conflicts with packaged version of openssl (OpenSSL 1.0.1k-fips 8 Jan 2015) which does not accept MD5 digest on security grounds.

See discussion and fix here:
http://foolscap.lothar.com/trac/ticket/141

And example of an error it caused:
https://tahoe-lafs.org/trac/tahoe-lafs/ticket/2400

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable): 0.6.4

How reproducible: N/A

Steps to Reproduce: N/A

Actual results: N/A

Expected results: N/A

Additional info:
I assume this it is too close to Fedora 22 release to upgrade this package, hence the request filed for rawhide. Please let me know if there's any other information needed, or if this is the wrong place to file.

Comment 1 Gabriel Schubiner 2015-04-22 05:17:17 UTC
Oops, realized I filed for 22 by mistake. Well, I suppose I'll leave it at the discretion of someone who knows the release cycle better.

Comment 2 Daira Hopwood 2015-04-22 08:58:00 UTC
Note that this completely prevents the foolscap package from working, so it should probably have a higher Severity than Low.

Comment 3 Daira Hopwood 2015-04-22 09:28:11 UTC
This would also fix most of bug 1106775 (which is filed for 22).

Comment 5 Jan Kurik 2015-07-15 14:15:05 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 23 development cycle.
Changing version to '23'.

(As we did not run this process for some time, it could affect also pre-Fedora 23 development
cycle bugs. We are very sorry. It will help us with cleanup during Fedora 23 End Of Life. Thank you.)
