Comment 9 Dan Callaghan 2015-06-12 00:01:16 UTC
The project changelog hasn't been updated since 1.7.5 but looking at the commit history it seems the 2.0.x series is just about adding Python 3 support. However there doesn't seem to be any strong claims about maintaining compatibility, so it looks like this should go to rawhide only.

Comment 10 Dan Callaghan 2015-06-12 00:11:13 UTC
Also I assume this will depend on Paste 2.0.x also.

Comment 11 Tomas Orsava 2016-05-10 15:31:08 UTC
Upstream, this software supports Python 3. Please provide a Python 3
package for Fedora.

According to the Python packaging guidelines [0], software must be
packaged for Python 3 if upstream supports it.
The guidelines give detailed information on how to do this, and even
provide an example spec file [1].

The current best practice is to provide subpackages for the two Python
versions (called "Common SRPM" in the guidelines). Alternatively, if
nothing depends on your Python2 package, you can just switch to Python 3
entirely.

It's OK to do this in Rawhide only, however, it would be greatly
appreciated if you could push it to Fedora 24 as well.

If you need more instructions, a guide for porting Python-based RPMs is
available at [2].
If anything is unclear, or if you need any kind of assistance with the
porting, you can ask on IRC (#fedora-python on Freenode), or reply here.
We'll be happy to help!

Comment 14 Randy Barlow 2017-01-04 04:25:08 UTC
Due to some of the concerns raised about backwards compatibility, I decided to play it safe and only release this version in Rawhide. I ended up majorly refactoring the spec file in the process, but as a result we now also have python2- and python3- versions of this package (with properly named executables for each). I am inclined to let Fedora 24/25 stay as they are for now, without having a python3- version.
