Description of problem:
Please build latest tesseract for EPEL 6 and 7, because I would like to
use it there.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
tesseract-3.03-0.6.rc1.fc23

Actual results:
No tesseract in EPEL 6 and 7

Expected results:
tesseract-3.03-0.6.rc1.el6 and tesseract-3.03-0.6.rc1.el7 (or better)

Additional info:
Please let me know if you are not interested in maintaining the package.

tesseract-3.04.00 needs a C++11 compiler to build the training tools, which is not available in el6. Should I build an older version on el6 or exclude the training tools?

Uh, good question. Features were added gradually, if memory serves me right the first exciting things started landing in gcc 4.6 and in 4.8 most major language features were implemented.

Personally, I don't have an opinion here. I guess a common case of tesseract
on RHEL/CentOS 6 is using OCR on server side (like I plan to do). Right now,
I am not sure if the training tools are helpful on server side or if they are
better placed on client side. Aside of this, the only changes between 3.03
and 3.04 seem to be the experimental OpenCL support and many bug fixes. So if
the client tools make sense on server side as well, let's go for 3.03 simply.

Looks like icu is to old in the EL base repo for tesseract 3.03. (it has 4.2.1-12.el6 which was released back in 2009). Don't know what version we can get to build with that libicu. My time is somewhat limited, so if you could do some hunting it'd be apprechiated.

For el6: the ICU problem again affects the training tools only, so we might just build tesseract 3.04.00 without training tools rather than go back to possibly tesseract 2.x.

Oh, thank you for investigating! I personally would like 3.x - even it is
without the training tools. Do you have any opinion on this?
