Description Jaroslav Škarvada 2017-04-10 15:39:13 UTC
Description of problem:
It seems to be related to the switch from slang to ncurses. If recompiled with the slang the shift + F5 / F6 started to work again. It's quick copy/rename (not sure how upstream call it) i.e. the same as F5 / F6, but the dialog is pre-filled with the current name.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
mc-4.8.19-1

How reproducible:
Always

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Point to file and press shift + F5 or shift + F6

Actual results:
Nothing happen for shift + F5, for shift + F6 delete dialog appears

Expected results:
Copy / rename dialog shows pre-filled with the current name

Additional info:
Maybe other keys combinations also stopped working, for now I also now about shift + F5 in mcedit, that should paste the content of the clipboard file, but that's the same key, just different program.

Do you know any workaround for it?

I am using xfce4-terminal, but it seems the same in gnome-terminal.

Also I think you shouldn't do such changes in stable releases (f25). I am not for revert, but I think it should be fixed.

Comment 1 Jaroslav Škarvada 2017-04-10 15:47:49 UTC
Interesting that the change was authored in spec by Tomasz Kłoczko <kloczek> with nick 'kloczek' who doesn't seem to be mc committer in pkgdb:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/package/rpms/mc/

And pkdb returns the following for his nickname:
https://admin.fedoraproject.org/pkgdb/packager/kloczek/
No packager of this name found.

But he applied for the administrator rights of the mc package.

It was this commit:
https://src.fedoraproject.org/cgit/rpms/mc.git/commit/?h=f25&id=589373c36dbfe5fddd1e5a187cc60b7580c9ade9

which was actually committed by Gwyn Ciesla <limburgher>.

This is actually a duplicate of 1440110, see discussion there.

Comment 3 Fedora End Of Life 2017-11-16 18:48:02 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 25 is nearing its end of life.
Approximately 4 (four) weeks from now Fedora will stop maintaining
and issuing updates for Fedora 25. It is Fedora's policy to close all
bug reports from releases that are no longer maintained. At that time
this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a Fedora 'version'
of '25'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 25 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 4 Fedora End Of Life 2017-12-12 10:21:54 UTC
Fedora 25 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2017-12-12. Fedora 25 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
