dnfdragora-updater started crashing at startup after I upgraded the kernel to 4.20.8-200.fc29.x86_64 (from 4.20.7).
It's the first thing after login: a notification of the crash.

For me, a crashing dnfdragora-updater sometimes also causes a crash of xfce4-panel:
bug 1684753
bug 1683838

Comment 52 Kåre Løvgren 2019-08-11 10:14:11 UTC
Happened again today. It seems like the dnfdragora-updater crashes whenever I have updated the kernel -- there may be some initialization problem?

Same dnfdragora-updater-1.1.1-2.fc30, crashed just after updating to kernel 5.1.7-300.fc30.x86_64 (I haven't made yet another bug report, just wanted to note the correlation with the kernel update.

Comment 53 Woi 2019-08-11 11:42:39 UTC
I have crashes quite often, with and without kernel updates. My observation is, that crashes occur when the client is closed. Of course, this usually is the case after updates have been applied. But it also happens when quitting the GUI without updating anything.

Also a lots of my crashes can't be automatically reported, because of insufficient information: https://retrace.fedoraproject.org/faf/reports/1685332/

Since this affects a lots of users and haven't been taken care of for more than have a year: Is there something we as bug reporters can do to get this fixed?

Comment 54 Stan King 2019-08-11 23:09:54 UTC
Woi, that's a good comment (#53).

Is it possible that this is a python3 problem?

Interpreted languages like python shouldn't be throwing errors like this, unless there's a way to feed them bad pointers.

Comment 55 Woi 2019-08-14 20:59:03 UTC
Could be python3, could be (binary?) yui.YUILoader.deleteUI(), which is called at the end of the python script.
What desktop environments do you use? I use Xfce, which was switched to Version 4.13 and GTK3 in Fedora 29 IIRC. So maybe it's this change?

BTW: I couldn't find a bug report upstream [1], so it seems to be a Fedora only problem.
However, I currently don't have the time do dig any deeper, nor to fill a bug report upstream. I won't even be able to answer here, for quite a while.

I just got a "python3.7 killed by SIGSEGV" crash after my very first login on a freshly installed Fedora 30/Xfce. I think this far away of meeting the quality expectations of the Fedora project.
Since this bug is assigned, but obviously not being worked on since 3/4 year, I'll try to bring it to the attention of QA by setting "Need additional information form qa contact"

Also created a report upstream: https://github.com/manatools/dnfdragora/issues/140

Comment 60 Ben Cotton 2019-10-31 18:43:57 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 29 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 29 on 2019-11-26.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
Fedora 'version' of '29'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 29 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 61 Ben Cotton 2019-11-27 23:36:21 UTC
Fedora 29 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2019-11-26. Fedora 29 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
