Description Miro Hrončok 2019-08-09 17:53:07 UTC
In line with the Mass Python 2 Package Removal [0], the following (sub)packages of ioprocess were marked for removal:

 * python2-ioprocess

According to our query, those (sub)packages only provide a Python 2 importable module. If this is not true, please tell us why, so we can fix our query.

Please remove them from your package in Rawhide (Fedora 31).

Please don't do this for Fedora 30, removing packages from a released Fedora branch is forbidden.

As said in the change document, if there is no objection in a week, we will remove the package(s) as soon as we get to it. This change might not match your packaging style, so we'd prefer if you did the change. If you need more time, please let us know here.

If you do the change yourself, it would help us a lot by reducing the amount of packages we need to mass change.

We hope this doesn't come to you as a surprise. If you want to know our motivation for this, please read the change document [0].

This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 31 development cycle.
Changing version to '31'.

Comment 2 Ben Cotton 2019-08-13 17:14:44 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora 31 development cycle.
Changing version to 31.

Comment 3 Miro Hrončok 2019-08-22 13:56:54 UTC
A failing build is blocking this.

Comment 4 Kevin Fenzi 2019-08-24 17:16:19 UTC
We should retire python-subprocess32 at the same time as we remove this python2 subpackage...

Comment 5 Miro Hrončok 2019-08-25 19:42:40 UTC
Why?

$ repoquery --repo=rawhide{,-source} --whatrequires python2-subprocess32
ioprocess-0:1.1.0-3.fc30.src
mcomix-0:1.2.1-10.fc31.noarch
python2-ioprocess-0:1.1.0-3.fc30.noarch
python2-matplotlib-0:2.2.4-5.fc31.1.src
python2-matplotlib-0:2.2.4-5.fc31.1.x86_64

Comment 6 Kevin Fenzi 2019-08-25 21:04:12 UTC
Well, this is a backport of a python3 module to python2. Are all those python2 things going to get approval to stay around?

Comment 7 Miro Hrončok 2019-08-25 21:21:40 UTC
They might get exception. I am strongly against removing packages that still have dependents at this moment; it can make packaging work miserable for others. We will coordinately remove all the stuff in November: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/RetirePython2#Detailed_Description

Comment 8 Kevin Fenzi 2019-08-26 16:33:42 UTC
Sure, we can wait. My query didn't show those other packages, only python2-ioprocess... not sure what I did wrong there.

Comment 9 Nir Soffer 2019-08-26 20:54:43 UTC
python2-ioprocess can be removed from Fedora 31. The only user of this
package is vdsm which will use python3-ioprocess in Fedora 31.

The only issue with the removal is time to work on this.

Comment 10 Miro Hrončok 2019-12-26 12:54:56 UTC
Automation has figured out the package is retired in rawhide.

If you like it to be unretired, please open a ticket at https://pagure.io/releng/new_issue?template=package_unretirement
