Description Tuan Hoang 2019-09-09 13:51:39 UTC
Description of problem:
Systemd dropped /usr/lib/udev/collect recently, starting v240 (aka starting F30). Dan Horak pointed it out at : https://github.com/systemd/systemd/commit/a168792c2d95695fd30c0371d4b3890a9df1eafb

Dracut rules for zfcp, znet, dasd however still expect this program.
https://github.com/dracutdevs/dracut/blob/master/modules.d/95zfcp_rules/module-setup.sh#L44

It seems only s390x dracut rules are the user of this /usr/lib/udev/collect file.

Maybe this should be a bug report for dracut rather than Fedora ...

Steps to Reproduce:

Actual results:
dracut: dracut module 'dasd_rules' will not be installed, because command '/usr/lib/udev/collect' could not be found!
dracut: dracut module 'qeth_rules' will not be installed, because command '/usr/lib/udev/collect' could not be found!
dracut: dracut module 'zfcp_rules' will not be installed, because command '/usr/lib/udev/collect' could not be found!

Comment 2 Dan Horák 2019-09-12 10:15:33 UTC
Those *_rules modules are specific to SUSE, so it should be fixed in dracut upstream, for Fedora we should be skipping them (IMO).

Comment 3 Dan Horák 2019-10-11 10:21:27 UTC
If I understand it right, then the {dasd,qeth,zfcp}_rules modules are for SUSE's way of setting the persistent devices. Fedora uses a single udev rule + a script + a config file for each device class, while SUSE has one rule per device (similar to the new zdev mechanism in upstream s390utils). Thus Fedora's dracut could be configured with omit_dracutmodules+="{dasd,qeth,zfcp}_rules" in dracut.conf

In Fedora - it's dasd.udev + dasdconf.sh + /etc/dasd.conf or zfcp.udev + zfcpconf.sh + /etc/zfcp.conf, see https://src.fedoraproject.org/rpms/s390utils/tree/master

Comment 4 Ben Cotton 2020-04-30 20:58:43 UTC
This message is a reminder that Fedora 30 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 30 on 2020-05-26.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
Fedora 'version' of '30'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version'
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not
able to fix it before Fedora 30 is end of life. If you would still like
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version
of Fedora, you are encouraged change the 'version' to a later Fedora
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Comment 5 Ben Cotton 2020-05-26 17:26:30 UTC
Fedora 30 changed to end-of-life (EOL) status on 2020-05-26. Fedora 30 is
no longer maintained, which means that it will not receive any further
security or bug fix updates. As a result we are closing this bug.

If you can reproduce this bug against a currently maintained version of
Fedora please feel free to reopen this bug against that version. If you
are unable to reopen this bug, please file a new report against the
current release. If you experience problems, please add a comment to this
bug.

Thank you for reporting this bug and we are sorry it could not be fixed.
