Description of problem:
Problem similar to https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=1314923 
I'm not able to set the proper resolution for ultrawide monitor LG 29UM58 plugged in to Lenovo Thinkpad T450 (Fedora 30, Gnome) - in "Settings > Displays" max what can I choose is 1920x1080. When I switch the gnome session to Xorg there is also no option to set proper resolution via displays settings but I can do this with xrandr (workaround proposed in bug mentioned above)

How reproducible:
Plug in ultra-widescreen monitor

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Plug in monitor
2. No proper resolution in settings (21:9, 2560x1080) for LG 29UM58
3. Lack of replacement for xrandr in wayland session

Actual results:
Maximal resolution for my monitor is 1920x1080

Expected results:
Proper resolution for 21:9 monitor

Additional info:
Monitor plugged in to Lenovo Thinkpad T450 with Intel HD Graphics 5500

So the kernel doesn't think that mode is supported, not much mutter can do. I assume it's a bug in the kernel driver not making it advertise the modes it should, so moving there.

There is currently no way for mutter to be provided with manual modelines as can be done via xrandr, to work-around.

Fedora 31, kernel-5.3.9-300.fc31.x86_64, mutter-3.34.1-8.fc31.x86_64 - the problem still exists

We apologize for the inconvenience.  There are a large number of bugs to go through and several of them have gone stale.  Due to this, we are doing a mass bug update across all of the Fedora 31 kernel bugs.

Fedora 31 has now been rebased to 5.5.7-200.fc31.  Please test this kernel update (or newer) and let us know if you issue has been resolved or if it is still present with the newer kernel.

If you have moved on to Fedora 32, and are still experiencing this issue, please change the version to Fedora 32.

If you experience different issues, please open a new bug report for those.

Unfortunately the issue is still present on Fedora 31 with kernel 5.5.7-200.fc31.x86_64

This message is a reminder that Fedora 31 is nearing its end of life.
Fedora will stop maintaining and issuing updates for Fedora 31 on 2020-11-24.
It is Fedora's policy to close all bug reports from releases that are no longer
maintained. At that time this bug will be closed as EOL if it remains open with a
Fedora 'version' of '31'.

Package Maintainer: If you wish for this bug to remain open because you
plan to fix it in a currently maintained version, simply change the 'version' 
to a later Fedora version.

Thank you for reporting this issue and we are sorry that we were not 
able to fix it before Fedora 31 is end of life. If you would still like 
to see this bug fixed and are able to reproduce it against a later version 
of Fedora, you are encouraged  change the 'version' to a later Fedora 
version prior this bug is closed as described in the policy above.

Although we aim to fix as many bugs as possible during every release's 
lifetime, sometimes those efforts are overtaken by events. Often a 
more recent Fedora release includes newer upstream software that fixes 
bugs or makes them obsolete.

Plug in ultra-widescreen display via displayport adapter

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Plug in displayport and HDMI connection to display
2. Max 1980x1080 resolution option for Sharp 4K UHD 
3. Inability to overide via xrandr and/or wayland

Actual results:
Display max resolution is 1920x1080

Expected results:
4K resolution options for display

Additional info:
Display plugging into HDMI Display port adaptor rated for 4K & 2K, into Lenovo X1 Carbon Gen1, Intel i915 Graphics adapter, Displayport adapter
