Comment 19 Fedora Update System 2021-03-30 14:38:57 UTC
FEDORA-2021-51550e512a has been pushed to the Fedora 34 testing repository.
Soon you'll be able to install the update with the following command:
`sudo dnf upgrade --enablerepo=updates-testing --advisory=FEDORA-2021-51550e512a`
You can provide feedback for this update here: https://bodhi.fedoraproject.org/updates/FEDORA-2021-51550e512a

See also https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/QA:Updates_Testing for more information on how to test updates.

Comment 20 Adam Williamson 2021-03-30 15:03:27 UTC
Thomas: hmm, that's unfortunate. Did you restart your GNOME session at least after installing the update?

Comment 21 Adam Williamson 2021-03-30 15:04:24 UTC
Aha, actually, I didn't backport the fix for this - got lost in a maze of upstream references. Will grab that too. Thanks for pointing it out.

Comment 22 Adam Williamson 2021-03-30 15:05:54 UTC
Hmm, the actual fix for this is...large:
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gjs/-/merge_requests/593
and still under active discussion upstream, so probably best to let it bake for a bit. I'll change the update not to claim to fix this, for now.

Comment 23 Real Name 2021-03-30 23:10:38 UTC
https://gitlab.gnome.org/GNOME/gjs/-/merge_requests/593/diffs?commit_id=e4245700f46311bbf38d24cc625467b7f35b772c

Could you also backport this one? It's a fix for 294 (upstream), has the potential to crash GNOME shell itself.

Proposing as an FE now we're in freeze, this is obviously commonly encountered. Will check back in on the upstream fix in a minute.

The PR is still being worked on upstream, and is getting extremely large...

Discussed during the 2021-04-12 blocker review meeting: [1]

The decision to classify this bug was postponed:

"We are punting with intent: this means we won't pull in a big hairy potential fix this week, but if we wind up slipping this week, it gives us the option to possibly pull it in for the next go-round."

Upstream PR just keeps goin' and goin'. I asked if there's any end in sight:

Discussed during the 2021-04-19 blocker review meeting: [0]

The decision to delay the classification of this as a blocker bug was made as this is a bug we'd like to fix, but the current fix is far too big and complex to pull in. We would consider a reduced backport, but one is not yet ready and it's too close to go/no-go to safely pull one in this week. However, if the release slips, there may be a window to pull in a backport before next week, so we will leave our options open.

Start Gnome-Weather then exit. It will dump core before it is able to save locations so that one must enter the location after starting the application again in order to get a weather report.
