Description Lukas Javorsky 2022-09-20 12:50:41 UTC
Pcre has been deprecated since Fedora 38.
Please consider porting to the new pcre2 version.

Fedora change that describes the pcre deprecation is located here: https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/PcreDeprecation
FESCo approval is located here: https://pagure.io/fesco/issue/2862

If your component has already ported to pcre2 or you don't Require/BuildRequire any pcre subpackage, feel free to close this Bugzilla.

Adding blocking relationship to BZ 2127507 (the Change tracker)

Comment 2 Ben Cotton 2023-02-07 15:10:32 UTC
This bug appears to have been reported against 'rawhide' during the Fedora Linux 38 development cycle.
Changing version to 38.

Comment 3 Lukas Javorsky 2023-06-01 08:34:58 UTC
Hi, do you have any update on this?

Comment 4 Jerry James 2023-06-11 01:52:16 UTC
According to the linked gitlab issue, clisp upstream is hoping someone will volunteer to write a pcre2 module. So far, that someone has not appeared.

Clisp can be built without pcre support. However, I do not know if that will break any of the Fedora consumers of clisp (maxima and texlive-xindy).

Comment 5 Lukas Javorsky 2023-07-03 07:56:07 UTC
Thank you for the response,

Could you please create bugzillas for those two dependencies to determine if they will be affected?

Removing 'pcre' dependency is important for the ELN content resolver, as 'pcre' is listed as unwanted (the plan is to remove it before the RHEL-10 fork)

I verified that none of the Fedora users of clisp need the pcre module, so I have disabled that module and rebuilt clisp.
