Github rhinstaller anaconda pull 5090 0 None open Revert the ESP maximum size back to 600MiB 2023-09-06 15:29:28 UTC

Description Adam Williamson 2023-08-25 18:59:06 UTC
As part of https://fedoraproject.org/wiki/Changes/BiggerESP , the maximum size of the EFI system partition was set to 2G. This is quite large, and caused quite a few unwanted consequences which have not yet been addressed:

https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2212121
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2214329
https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2214342

it seems to have not been entirely understood that the "maximum" size is actually the one the installer will use in virtually all cases, given current partitioning logic.

There is a PR to reduce the maximum size again to 600M, which should be enough for firmware images:

https://github.com/rhinstaller/anaconda/pull/5081

we can try again to deal with the issue of UKIs at a later time.

This bug is proposed as a Beta FE to land this change for F39 Beta. The Change owner (hughesie) supports this, and per nirik, "Several FESCo members liked the idea of dropping the max size" (https://bugzilla.redhat.com/show_bug.cgi?id=2208181#c4 ).

Reproducible: Always
