Description Fedora Fails To Install 2024-03-06 09:16:51 UTC
Hello,

Please note that this comment was generated automatically by https://pagure.io/releng/blob/main/f/scripts/ftbfs-fti/follow-policy.py
If you feel that this output has mistakes, please open an issue at https://pagure.io/releng/

Your package (rust-archery) Fails To Install in Fedora 41:

can't install rust-archery+serde-devel:
  - nothing provides (crate(serde) >= 1.0.197 with crate(serde) < 2.0.0~) needed by rust-archery+serde-devel-1.2.0-1.fc41.noarch

If you know about this problem and are planning on fixing it, please acknowledge so by setting the bug status to ASSIGNED. If you don't have time to maintain this package, consider orphaning it, so maintainers of dependent packages realize the problem.

If you don't react accordingly to the policy for FTBFS/FTI bugs (https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Fails_to_build_from_source_Fails_to_install/), your package may be orphaned in 8+ weeks.

P.S. The data was generated solely from koji buildroot, so it might be newer than the latest compose or the content on mirrors. To reproduce, use the koji/local repo only, e.g. in mock:

    $ mock -r fedora-41-x86_64 --config-opts mirrored=False install rust-archery+serde-devel

P.P.S. If this bug has been reported in the middle of upgrading multiple dependent packages, please consider using side tags: https://docs.fedoraproject.org/en-US/fesco/Updates_Policy/#updating-inter-dependent-packages

Thanks!

Looks like somebody didn't use `mock --postinstall` for their local test build ...

I'll try to prioritize the update for serde to fix this.
In the future, please avoid pushing updates that cause broken dependencies.

Comment 2 Mattia Verga 2024-03-06 17:14:52 UTC
That slipped in between my checks, sorry.
But shouldn't the mock build have failed as well by not having a higher enough version of serde available? (at least, python packages builds fail in this situations)

Comment 3 Fabio Valentini 2024-03-06 18:18:38 UTC
No, this is a runtime only dependency since it's a non-default feature.

The build passed because the BuildRequires were satisfiable, but the Requires of the built packages were not. I believe the same issue occurs for Python packages in similar situations (like for "extras").

Comment 4 Fedora Fails To Install 2024-03-09 16:23:48 UTC
Hello,

All subpackages of a package against which this bug was filled are now installable or removed from Fedora 41.

Thanks for taking care of it!
