Description Mark Merritt 2010-04-02 17:59:47 UTC
Created attachment 404222 [details]
Contains all of the files and command outputs together in case I can't find a way to attach them seperately

Description of problem:
During the boot process, the computer hangs just just after setting the host name. The last thing I see is the "Setting hostname... [ OK ]" line.

Version-Release number of selected component (if applicable):
2.6.32.10-90

How reproducible:
It happens every time I try to boot this kernel.

Steps to Reproduce:
1. Boot using kernel 2.6.32.10-90

Additional info
The hang occurs right after the "Setting hostname" line, which appears to be successful. Looking at logs from successful boots, this is approximately the point where LVM kicks in. I am using the default LVM setup from the graphical installer, and am attaching my fstab, the output of lvm dumpconfig, and the output from [pv,lv,vg]display.

I removed all of the modesetting kernel parameters to allow me to see the boot messages and to eliminate the possibility of that being the problem. My current kernel line is as follows:
kernel /vmlinuz-2.6.32.10-90.fc12.i686 ro root=/dev/mapper/vg_neuromancer-lv_root noiswmd LANG=en_US.UTF-8 SYSFONT=latarcyrheb-sun16 KEYBOARDTYPE=pc KEYTABLE=us nomodeset

Kernel 2.6.32.9-70, my backup kernel, boots with no problems whatsoever.

The computer is a Dell Insipiron 9400 laptop. The output of lspci is attached.

As far as I can tell, the boot process does not get far enough to actually write logs, but if there's somewhere that I'm missing, I will happily provide any logs needed.

Same thing for me. Dell Inspiron 1520, fedora 12 x84-64 seems to be affected too.

Same thing here on a Dell 2350. New install of F12 from dvd (works nicely) followed by yum update which installed 2.6.32.10-90 with identical symptoms as above.

This looks like a duplicate of bug 577463. can you check if the koji build mentioned in bug 578217 comment 8 resolves the issue?
